The word 'recession' has been falling on my ears for last 2-3 years mostly from my friends abroad.Comparing recession in synonym to a cyclone thats rapidly approaching to fill our life with agony was the general approach..then a lot of reading..on recession..articles from Deloitte, Mckinsey improved the knowledge...
Even after such efforts of knowing the situation, nothing seemed to have touched me..no one in close circle too..my parents n relatives who were mostly Govt servants were supposed to be immune to such economic down turns.
So we were waiting. Our team at office was good n lively. Majority being bachelors , spent most of their evenings with lavish parties..May be most of them might have saved (I pray so)...
The IBS termination episode started as an eye opener...never before had we heard about mass termination in a firm in Kerala since the slow down early this decade. Then a fine morning it was announced that our client want to downsize..means 6 among us,..luckily I escaped the axe this time.. but how long??
Last week my unfortunate collegues left..without finding a new job..not all, but one of them got a job to the very same profile and at the very same location where 5 years before I had started my career and then left for a better job..the cycle reversed in his case..
During the past five and a half years , the Automation Engineer's job profile I was involved was largely devoid of any tension until the ripples of recession reached Indian shores..as projects came down and the fear of job loss started hanging as the Sword of Damocles..panic search of new job..
Luckily for me the Masters in Business administration which I had been doing during my evening time for last 3 years had almost finished; thanks to my prudent father who urged me to invest my free time and savings on education; now with my new profile in Marketing..seems to have better footing as we are supposed to find projects..at least we are deciding our future projects!!
